My grandma used to bake the best birthday cakes for me, my sister, and my cousins. She had been trained, although I’m not sure of those details. What I know is that she was really good. But, as she got older, she wasn’t as able to keep up with all the birthdays, so she sent my mom to a few cake decorating classes. And then, my mom took over the family birthday cakes.
I always enjoyed watching and helping my mom make cakes, but she always felt like the artistic aspect wasn’t her strength. I think she was great, and I think they tasted wonderful, which is just as important more important than the look. But either way, I learned a lot from my mom.
Over recent years, with the rise in popularity of cake decorating shows, I’ve gathered more ideas and developed more skills. I love trying new things.
Of course, I can’t just bake for me and my husband, so I love the opportunity to bake cakes for friends and family, sometimes for hire and sometimes as gifts. I just left my job to be a full-time wife and mom to my hubby Paul and little man Harry. That job, of course, has priority on my time and focus. But the cakes, crafts, graphic design, decorating my house, throwing parties and other creative outlets are a wonderful hobby/side business.
If you are interested in hiring me, please, by all means, contact me. I would love to talk to you about your event and find something that helps make it especially special.
